stumbled upon this article on thisiskul and i love it. i love it so much.
look at her art, it speaks so much truth, it shows so much courage. even her words - they are so definite. every single piece bears so much meaning, makes my blood boil. so much so that i feel the need to come on my blog just to write about it.
but alas, i'm not good at words, i do not have the ability to convey exactly how i feel right now. and that's a shame.
reading this article also got me to think that the world really has not changed one bit after all these fucking years. okay, yes, many things have happened. people have... -sortof- improved. but still, the general idea of this world is still the same. opposites will always exist. when you have dictators, you'll have rebels; when you have rich people, you'll have the poor.
people that make art like hers exist because countries so corrupt and immature like malaysia exists. can you feel the tension????? i mean, look at that altantuya piece????????? LIKE HOLY COW. I DON'T KNOW. THE FEELZ????!?!?!?! I WISH I WERE IN MALAYSIA NOW SO I CAN GO TO HER EXHIBITIONS!!!!
but on a serious note, i just hope people in malaysia will one day, learn to LEARN. sometimes they really need to shut up and listen and THINK before slamming down an ideology or labelling it as 'a product of westernisation' or 'liberalism'. trust me, it's more than that. it really is. i just hope they can be more empathic and just slow down your thoughts a little.
when issues like racism/feminism/justice/equity become a 'taboo', you know this country has a serious problem.

Beautiful distractions
1. thisbedottie
so i started to watch lucymoon a few days ago and discovered dottie's channel from the sidebar and ever since, i've been OBSESSED. i love how short her videos are, how different her content is compared to other youtubers. and i rly feel like i discovered her videos at a very right time because i was just complaining to my friend how repetitive the youtubers that i follow can be and just after that, I DISCOVERED HER. i hope she makes more videos though, there's just not enough to be watched.
i relate to her videos so much it's insane. "ask yourself the right questions" was the first video of hers that i watched and i was IMMEDIATELY hooked.
(also, can someone please tell me what lipstick she's wearing?? i'm dying to know???)
2. emilydianaruth
EMILYDIANARUTH. probs one of the FIRST artsy youtuber i found on youtube. i found her a long time ago. some time last year? for some reason i felt like i've shared her videos on my blog before lol. but never mind. her videos are so well-executed and her 'letters to july' project is so amazing! i've actually forgotten about her (although i've already subscribed to her) because she hasn't posted for so long! (i'm just assuming that she's... preparing for her movie??? idk lol) but dottie actually reminded me of her a bit.
i really do hope she starts posting again.
3. helloimellis
dottie made a video recommending her favourite youtubers and this was one of them. i just really like how his videos are shot. also, it's amazing how he's only 18? or 19? this year! and look at the videos he's producing. i love it.
4. thatschic//Rachel Nguyen
I subscribed to her channel ages ago but never REALLY followed her stuff. Occasionally I'd watch her but really not all of them. I didn't even watch all of her vlogmas videos until the start of this month?? Yes, very late to the party. But i actually love her vlogmas videos! I initially thought vlogmas is a bit redundant? Like asking youtubers to record every single moment of their lives? Well yes, it can be a bit too much if not done well, but rachel did a really good job at her vlogmas videos! Okay honestly, I couldn't stand her valleygirl accent at first but it started to grow on me.... ahaha. and her videos were really like fresh breaths of air to me. minimal makeup, a different fashion sense and it's just #phresher. lol. And. I especially chose this video to share with you guys because - I love everything that she said about fomo. and her personality actually shone through in this video.
5. Lucymoon
Okay LUCY!i actually watched her vegan video when it first came out but at the time she hasn't rly posted anything ELSE that i liked particularly so i didn't subscribe to her. but i think her videos were under the recommendations list on youtube so i decided to give it a go because... well, i was bored. and was honestly a bit tired of all the similar makeup styles i've been watching on youtube (and just getting the same recommendations?) so i wanted to watch something... fresh?
and i'm so happy that i decided to click into her channel because... it has led me to a different side of youtube?
Honourable mentions:
(just because, they're not.... the artsy/beautiful ones, but i love them equally as much as those mentioned above)
6. Casuallyexplained
just watch it. it's good. it's funny. (i've binged watch ALL of his videos in 2 days, just cause i rly am not supposed to be watching youtube videos rn, i'm supposed to be busy... studying.)
7. Yourmoviesucksdotorg
if you like movies & movie reviews like me. watch him. he's incredibly funny and a fairly good taste in movies!
8. Nerdwriter1
(p.s. i chose this review because I LOVE THIS MOVIE. and i've actually never thought of how this movie was shot before! as in how there are so many 'frames within frames' shot)
another movie/art reviewer. his reviews are by far the most... well-made ones? idk, i have yet to watch all of the other reviewers on youtube but compared to the others, i feel like his is the most.... "professional" one? im not saying his is the BEST out of all, but his videos are more technical. although i can find it a bit impersonal at times, but definitely enjoyable. i also love his art reviews. i've never really understood/bothered to look into art but the reviews that he's made definitely made me learn how to appreciate art more.
(p.s. i chose his in the mood for love review just because i love this movie lol. and i've actually never thought of how this movie was shot before! as in how there are so many 'frames within frames' shot)
(nerdwriter1's art review!) i hope he makes more of these.
